Braces move the teeth into the right position using brackets placed on the teeth and wires that connect them. They can be used in many situations, such as crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, bite problems and jaw discrepancies. In some cases, braces may be a more suitable or more effective option than clear aligners.
Metal brackets are durable and widely used. Aesthetic (ceramic) brackets are close to tooth colour and less noticeable. Which one suits you is decided together, based on your teeth, the treatment goal and your expectations.
Treatment begins with a detailed examination and the necessary records (X-rays, digital scan, photographs). A personal plan is then prepared. The brackets are bonded to the teeth, and at later check-ups the wires are changed to move the teeth step by step. Check-ups take place at regular intervals.
Cleaning your teeth needs more care with braces. Regular brushing, interdental brushes and floss are important. Avoiding hard and sticky foods prevents brackets from coming off. If a bracket or wire causes a problem, contact us without waiting.
After braces are removed, retention (a retainer) is needed to protect the result. We explain the details on our Retention page.
Both methods are effective, but the same option may not suit every case. This decision is made at the examination, openly and specifically for you.
Can adults wear braces? Yes. Under suitable conditions, age alone is not a barrier.
How long does treatment take? It depends on your teeth and is planned at the examination.
Do braces hurt? There may be mild sensitivity in the first days; we explain how to manage it.
