Adolescence is a popular time for orthodontic treatment.

Adolescence is a popular time for orthodontic treatment. Most permanent teeth have come through and growth may still be continuing. Correcting the teeth and bite at this stage matters for both appearance and function.
Crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, teeth that bite too far forward or back, crossbite and jaw discrepancies are assessed at this stage. The problem and the treatment options are discussed at the examination with the teenager and their family.
For teenagers, both braces and clear aligners can be used. The choice depends on the tooth structure, the type of problem and the teenager’s commitment. Because clear aligners are removable, the teenager is responsible for wearing them for the recommended time, so suitability is assessed together at the examination. At our clinic we work with the Invisalign and Spark clear aligner systems.
Regular check-ups and oral hygiene are important throughout treatment. We give advice for activities such as sports or playing a musical instrument, and plan the process together so the teenager feels comfortable.
After treatment, a retainer is used to protect the result. Details are on our Retention page.
What is the best age? Every teenager develops differently; we assess this at the examination.
Will it affect school and social life? Use and care routines are adapted to daily life, and the aim is a comfortable process.
