The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint involved in chewing, speaking and opening the mouth.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint involved in chewing, speaking and opening the mouth. The bite and the jaw joint are closely related. That is why, when starting orthodontic treatment, it is important to look not only at how the teeth line up but also at the jaw joint and the chewing system.
When the treatment plan is made, the jaw joint and the bite relationship are assessed first. The aim is to ensure functional harmony between the jaws, teeth and surrounding tissues, in addition to straight teeth. We consider this approach especially important in clear aligner treatment, orthognathic surgery and complex bite problems.
An examination is helpful if you have jaw pain, clicking when opening the jaw, difficulty opening your mouth, discomfort when chewing or a feeling that your bite does not fit. Not every jaw joint complaint can be solved with orthodontic treatment. The cause becomes clear after the examination, and if necessary you are referred to the relevant specialists.
We listen to your complaints and assess your jaw movements and bite. Imaging is requested if needed. With the X-ray and digital records at our clinic, the assessment can be done in the same appointment. A plan suited to you is then shared.
The plan is tailored to the findings. Clear aligners, braces or other methods may be considered. We do not guarantee results, but we explain the process openly and keep you informed at every stage.
My jaw clicks. Do I need treatment? Not every click needs treatment; it is assessed at the examination.
Will orthodontics relieve my jaw pain? It can help in some cases, but we cannot guarantee it; this becomes clear at the examination.
